Some 38 children of war veterans from Masvingo were part of a large team of a contingent that recently visited Mozambique to tour war sites.
The two-day tour was organized by the Children of Zimbabwe National Liberation War veterans Association. They toured Chimoyo where mass graves for thousands of Zanla war cadres killed in 1978 and 1979 were buried.
The Member of Parliament for Masvingo Urban, Daniel Shumba was also involved in the organisation of the trip.
The purpose of the trip was to let the children see for themselves what their parents went through during the liberation struggle and hence to instill into them a sense of patriotism.
Manyanga Sengerai and Dorobheni Womberai, the association's provincial coordinators revealed the trip exploits to the local media.
Womberai said selection of the members who represented the districts was first done by the district coordinators who gave names of the members to the provincial coordinators who then submitted them to the national coordinators.
She said the main purpose of the trip was to see the importance of the role played by their parents, to impart the sense of patriotism in all the children of war veterans through highlighting the liberation struggle, to continue the legacy that their fathers fought for and ensuring the greater participation by the 'children of the sons and daughters of the soil'.
