Some western suburbs in Harare reportedly ran for two full days without electricity amid revelations the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company has announced the increase in load shedding during this winter period.
Harare west MP Jessie Majome told residents in her constituency that the load shedding was increasing and revealed that some suburbs have gone for two days without power.
"Please be advised that ZESA announced in the media that there will be an increase in load shedding outside the ZETDC timetable, due to a technical fault at Hwange Power Station. This time this information has been widely publicised in the newspapers and radio stations, which is in response to the compliant I made to ZETDC last time Harare West was in the dark in early February 2015 for poorly informing the public about the electricity situation," she said.
Majome said as their MP she was concerned with what affects Harare Westerners, such as local government service delivery and electricity, this is why she voluntarily joined the Local Government, Rural and Urban Develoment Committee so as to bring issues affecting Harare West to national level.
"However I must make it it clear that you as residents have to be proactive and directly approach these service providers. It is your right and duty. The more pressure the better. Also ZESA would know why you're not getting power, rather than me. Contact them always also in case it may be a fault. To contact ZETDC Mabelreign on 04310377, 04305707 or contact ZETDC Faults 04706454 and 042906938," she said.
