The case against four Zimbabweans accused of undermining authority of or insulting President Robert Mugabe crumbled in the Constitutional Court on Wednesday 10 June 2015 after the State conceded that the charges brought against Fortune Makonzo, Ephraim Sumburero, Chamunorwa Takawira and Flora Karosi were defective.
The four, who were represented by Advocate Lewis Uriri, Advocate Tawanda Zhuwarara and Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights member lawyers Kudzai Choga, Tapiwa Muchineripi and David Hofisi, were arrested some years ago and charged with contravening Section 33 (2) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for allegedly undermining authority of or insulting President Mugabe.
Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court on Wednesday 10 June 2015 reserved ruling in the matter in which former war veterans leader Jabulani Sibanda is challenging the constitutionality of Section 33 (2) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
