A ZVISHAVANE woman connived with her brother- in-law whom she was having an extra marital affair with and axed her husband to death to conceal their adulterous relationship.
Sphiwe Moyo, 32, of Zvinofa village under Chief Charumbira allegedly offered $10 to her husband's brother Witness Maphosa, 33, of Makumire village under Chief Matarutse, to assist her to kill his sibling.
Moyo and Witness yesterday appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Peter Madhiba facing murder charges.
They were remanded in custody to June 22 and were advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecutor Ausi Saidi told the court that last week on Tuesday at around 7PM, Moyo and Witness hatched a plan to kill Knowledge Maphosa.
Moyo allegedly offered Witness $10 and promised to give him another $40 after the dirty job.
The two, who were having an extra marital affair, then met in bushy area on the following day and proceeded to Maphosa's home. They found him sleeping and the door was not locked.
When they entered Maphosa's room, they took an axe and struck him three times on the head, inflicting deep cuts and fracturing his skulL
They later placed a large stone on top of the victim's head and covered his body with some clothes, it is alleged.
Moyo then covered the blood with mealie- meal before locking Maphosa's door and the two disappeared.
Maphosa's relatives discovered his body on June 4.
Moyo was later arrested at Costas in Mberengwa after being trapped by the CID.
After her arrest, she implicated Witness who was arrested at his homestead on June 6.
Moyo was said to have been engaged in an extra marital affair with her late husband's elder brother.
The affair allegedly started while her late husband was away from home panning for gold in Mberengwa.
Moyo also has a pending case at the courts after she allegedly assaulted her husband's ex-wife, Fungai Madhuku, in December last year.
Maphosa's sister, Memory, said Moyo had been married to her brother for less than a year and had no children.
He had two children with his former wife.
