A SECURITY guard yesterday appeared in court for robbing and beating up a woman that she caught stealing from a supermarket in Bulawayo, a court heard
Sarudzai Madzipa, 40, of Emakhandeni, allegedly gave Abigail Ndlovu, 26, of Pumula North a thorough hiding after she caught her red-handed with four packets of powdered milk she had stolen from a city supermarket where she is providing guarding duties.
Madzipa allegedly damaged Ndlovu's cell phone, stole her purse which had $70 and unlawfully detained her for four hours.
The court heard Madzipa released Ndlovu at around 10PM. Madzipa appeared before magistrate Marylene Mtshina facing charges of assault, negligently causing serious damage to property, theft, and unlawful detention
She pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded to today for judgment on $50 bail.
"I know nothing about these allegations. I saw her taking things from the shop and I alerted another security guard who then followed her. The guard shouted 'thief and she threw her bag on the road and ran into a sanitary lane," said Madzipa.
"She was apprehended along 6th Avenue and people were already assaulting her When she came to the shop she was still being assaulted and she had bruises.
The supervisor then said it was better that she be taken upstairs and when we got upstairs she told me that she wanted to fix me. She also begged not to be taken to court," said Madzipa.
Prosecuting Kudakwashe Jaravaza said on May 5, at around 6PM, Ndlovu entered into the Greens Supermarket at 5th Avenue and Fort Street and stole four packets of powdered milk and got out of the shop.
"The accused then noticed that Ndlovu had stolen something and informed some workmates of the incident Ndlovu was arrested and taken to a warehouse where Madzipa assaulted her with fists and kicked her several times all over the body?" said Jaravaza.
