The African Union chairman, President Robert Mugabe has left Harare for Johannesburg to attend and chair the 25th African Union Summit which begins on Sunday.
President Mugabe will join other African leaders at the mid-year summit which takes stock of what has been achieved since the January 2015 summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and also discuss various challenges facing the continent.
Trouble spots such as the crisis in Burundi, the DRC, the Boko Haram insurgence in West Africa and the recent attempts to impeach the President of Madagascar will come up for discussion.
Though the xenophobia attacks of fellow Africans in South Africa was discussed at the SADC level, African leaders will once again exchange notes on the issue.
The AU has given itself time frames and the agenda is: "2015 The Year of Women's Empowerment And Development Towards Africa's Agenda 2063."
Industrialisation and beneficiation of Africa's raw materials will also be discussed and it is expected to achieve gender parity in all spheres of human life.
The President was seen off at the Harare International Airport by Vice Presidents Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko, cabinet ministers, senior government officials and service chiefs.
Meanwhile, Mnangagwa is the Acting President.
