A HIV conscience Bulawayo man broke into a house in Nkulumane suburb and demanded to know a woman's HIV status before wearing a condom and raping her, a court has heard.

Talent Chakanyuka, 35, allegedly threatened to kill the victim, 21, if she resisted or told anyone afterwards, Chronicle reported.

Chakanyuka  was remanded in custody to June 25 before being advised to apply for bail at the High court.

The court heard that on June 8 this year at around 9PM, the woman locked the doors, windows and switched off the lights before retiring to bed.

"At around 3AM Chakanyuka cut the burglar bars to gain entry through a window. The complainant woke up to find him standing over her, holding a knife and a torch," said prosecutor Mufaro  Mageza.

The prosecutor said the victim told Chakanyuka she was HIV positive.

Mageza said Chakanyuka told the woman that he could not have sex with an HIV infected woman.

The court heard that Chakanyuka reached for a condom that was in his pocket, put it on and raped the woman once.

He threatened the woman with death if she screamed, said Mageza.

He said Chakanyuka then robbed the woman of R100 and asked her why she stayed alone.

"He went to the kitchen where he stole groceries that included flour, body lotion and macaroni," said Mageza.

He told the court that the next day the victim was walking in her neighbourhood with her cousin when she saw Chakanyuka at his house. She reported the matter at Nkulumane Police Station leading to Chakanyuka's arrest.
