The Anti Litter Monitors in Harare's Sunningdale suburbs last week embarked on the clean up campaign which saw them clearing garbage in the suburbs so as to maintain cleanliness in the area.
This was revealed by the Harare Residents Trust.
"Sunningdale Anti litter Monitors yesterday cleaned their park in their area together with the Ward Councillor Harmmy Madzingira. This reflects the community commitment in developing their area," said the Trust.
The developments come at a time when many local authorities are facing challenges in clearing the litter in the cities especially in High Density suburbs amid fears that the accumulation of garbage may cause the eruption of diseases.
Some Civic groups and individuals have been seen assisting the councils by collecting garbage from the most affected areas. Some time last year Buhera South MP Joseph Chinotimba used his vehicle to collect litter from Harare city to the dump site in an effort to help the city maintain cleanliness.
Most of the sprouting litter in the cities is blames of the escalation of vendors who are accused of throwing garbage all over as the unemployment crisis continues to escalate.
