Man rapes girlfriend's daughter, 5

A 23-YEAR-OLD Buhera man betrayed the trust bestowed on him and allegedly raped his girlfriend's daughter (5) once before threatening to kill her if she divulged the matter to anyone.
The incident that came to light four days later after the girl revealed the matter to her mother. The incident happened in Magaya Village under Chief Makumbe.Sylvester Manavapi is assisting police with investigations.
Police said Manavapi, on June 2, visited her girlfriend, the girl's mother and proceeded to Chari Night Club for a beer binge. Later during the day, they returned to the girlfriend's house and slept together in the same room with the girl. He later awakened his girlfriend and sent her to a nearby night club to buy some more beer.
"She went to the beer hall leaving Manavapi and the girl sleeping in the same room. He raped her once before threatening her with death if she divulged the matter to anyone.
"The matter came to light on June 4 when the girl accompanied her mother to the river to bath. Her mother realised that the girl was experiencing difficulties in walking.
"She quizzed her and she divulged that she was raped by Manavapi.
"She reported the matter to the police and Manavapi was arrested," said Insp Chishiri.
Insp Chishiri urged parents and guardians to be responsible to their children and always be on guard against potential abusers. He said parents should avoid leaving their children under the custody of strangers.
