South African media was yesterday filled with details of how President Robert Mugabe allegedly played a key role in President Omar al-Bashir's escape from SA law enforcement authorities last week.

It is alleged that Mugabe used his role as both AU and SADC chair to press for SA President Jacob Zuma to ensure that Bashir would not be arrested at the AU summit held in Johannesburg.

It was only after Bashir got assurances from Mugabe that he attended the AU summit.

MDC-T has said Mugabe's siding with Bashir is because of shared interest mainly based on intolerance and clamping down on opposition.
