Chiredzi residents must brace for dry tapes as Chiredzi Town Council has embarked on massive maintenance of its water system which is starts this week.
Masvingo Mirror reported that Council chairman Francis Moyo said employees of Hippo Valley Estates are repairing valves and carrying out cleaning of water tanks at the water system.
"We are embarking on massive maintenance work at our main water plant. This includes repairing of valves as well as pipes and cleaning of tanks. This is massive work which can only take place when the water is completely closed. Our engineers said they cannot predict the number of days which they can take to complete the work, so residents should brace themselves for a long dry spell" said Moyo.
Moyo said council workers notified residents through loud speakers about the impending water shortages. He said the move is necessary as it is aimed at improving water condition in other areas of Chiredzi which usually receives inadequate water.
United Chiredzi Residents and Ratepayers Association Chairman Josphat Tizirai said residents will be waiting for the completion of this exercise as they hope that it will improve the water situation in the town. He also said council employees moved in all the residential areas last Friday giving notice about the upcoming maintenance.
"We saw them moving in all areas with loud speakers informing us about the impending water maintenance. They said the exercise will start on 15 June and they anticipate it to be complete on 29 June. We urge residents to use water carefully during this period as we also hope that the water problem which we normally face will be history after the maintenance," said Tizirai.
