CALLS to declare President Robert Mugabe's birthday a public holiday are growing loud with the ruling Zanu-PF's Youth League secretary Pupurai Togarepi demanding that the 91-year-old leader be immortalised.

Togarepi made the call during a belated February 21st birthday bash in Kwekwe over the weekend.

Togarepi said Mugabe "needed to be recorded in the annals of history as the greatest leader to ever live and that his birthday be inked on the calendar permanently".

Each year, Zanu-PF holds plushy celebrations to mark Mugabe's birthday, which falls on February 24, but of late, there have been muted calls for government to have the day declared a public holiday.
