Man attacks ex-lover for spurning reunion

A LOVE-STRUCK, Talent Ziki, from Manicaland could not stomach being turned down and attacked his former girlfriend, Judith Maphosa, with stones before torching her hut.

Ziki (28) appeared before Mutare magistrate Sekai Chiundura on Monday facing charges of malicious damage to property and physical abuse as defined in section 3(a)(1) of the Domestic Violence Act chapter 5:16.

He was sentenced to 18 months in jail, but will serve an effective one year behind bars after six months were suspended on condition that he restitutes the complainant $850.

It was the State case that on June 7, the accused person, who is also an illegal diamond panner in Marange, approached the complainant Maphosa (38), his ex-girlfriend, seeking reunion.

Maphosa, turned down the proposal and this did not go down well with the accused who retaliated by burning the woman's kitchen.
