A Bulawayo based war veteran Max Mkandla has advised all the war veterans to identify themselves with the communities they are living in so as to push for position as house of assembly members and councilors in order to facilitate the success of the liberation agendas while holding such influential offices.
Mkandala said liberation war fighters from all political parties must know that it i now the time for them to identify themselves with the communities they live in so that they can be voted into offices in order to ensure that the agendas they fought for are fulfilled.
"Their presence in parliament or council chambers will make a great difference," he said.
"War vets must dominate parliament and local authorities where the laws governing the running of the country are formed and passed. This must happen while peace prevails in the country. Their involvement in law making will change the system of ruling. There are very few war veterans in these offices."
He said it appears most of the war veterans especially from the Zipra side abandoned politics and most of them were now church goers while some are living very poor lives in the rural areas.
"We want thinkers such as war veterans in parliament to uphold the objectives of the liberation struggle. Now they say we must juice water and electricity and they impose tollgates in towns. People who went to war would not approve such nonsense," he said.
