Patrick Chinamasa the Finance Minister yesterday defended President Robert Mugabe's frequent trips abroad at a time the economy is imploding saying he was a diligent person discharging his duties as head of African regional blocks.

He said Treasury exercised the utmost fiscal diligence, saying they had been able to sustain the economy against declining revenue inflows.

Mugabe yesterday left the country for Mozambique despite growing criticism over his frequent travels that are draining the cash strapped government of its meagre resources.

He will attend Mozambique's 40th Independence anniversary celebrations in Maputo today.
