Majome demand reinstatement of her Gender Based Violence motion

Harare West MP Jessie Majome has advised her constituency that on Wednesday she moved a motion to reinstate her gender based violence motion she has sometime raised but was superseded by the end of the first session of the 8th parliament.

"Yesterday (Wednesday) in Parliament I moved a motion to reinstate my Gender Based Violence motion which was superseded by the end of the First Session (2014) of the 8th Parliament be restored on the Order Paper," said Majome.

"It is my hope that the Ministries of Finance and Economic Development; Health and Child Care and Home Affairs will respond to my motion, already the Ministries of Women Affairs and Justice have responded to my motion. My motion to reinstate the GBV motion was seconded by Webstyer Shamu."

She said her motion seeks for the review of the Criminal Codification and Law Reform Act to ensure that rape attracts a minimum sentence of 30 years and above so that no person who is convicted of rape is sentenced to less than 30 years imprisonment but indeed all sentences are low and also a review of all other forms of sentences for gender based violence.

"This motion is calling upon Treasury for fully equip police to deal with GBV," she said.
