Chingwizi villagers are suing Home Affairs minister Kembo Mohadi and police commissioner-general Augustine for violation of their rights while in police detention.

In a suit filed at the Chiredzi Magistrates Court, the villagers who are demanding $3,000 each have accused the police of denying them their right to food, water and health services during the time of their arrest.

Among the villagers is a one year old baby who was detained after her mother was arrested.

Their lawyers claim the one year old baby was denied the right to basic health care as she developed a rash after officers refused her mother was denied the opportunity to access fresh diapers for her.
