Harare Residents Trust has hailed the Harare Council for suspending its town clerk Tendai Mahachi saying the development had been long over due.

Mahachi was sent on an indefinite leave on Tuesday amid applause for the council by the residents who were disgruntled by his administration of the town affairs.

"Harare City Council yesterday 30 June 2015 sent Town Clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi on an indefinite leave to pave way for investigations into his high levels of mismanagement and poor performance," said the Trust.

"At the HRT, this comes as sweet news because we have been lobbying the council and Government for the permanent ouster of Dr Mahachi from Town House owing to straight cases of abuse of office and authority, and manipulation of council systems, including abuse of the water account working with his sidekick, the Finance Manager Kusangaya, who has never gone on leave since 2006."

The Trust congratulated the city mayor Bernard Manyenyeni over the bold move.

"Councillor Wellington Chikombo, the Human Resources Committee Chairperson- the HRT is watching and knows how close you are to Dr Mahachi," said the Trust.

"You cannot protect incompetence forever! We are going to pursue the sidekicks who came through the backdoor at Town House from Zimpapers and ZBC. They are least competent to take up the positions they took from the City of Harare."
