VP Emmerson Mnangagwa's ally has bagged the Mashonaland East provincial chairmanship after fending of a challenge from Edgar Mbwembwe who is said to be aligned to G40.

Joel Biggie Matiza won the provincial election with 15,126 votes against Mbwembwe's 8,845 votes.

This comes as two of Mnangagwa's supporters also won the Women's League top and the Youth League top posts in the province, leaving Mnangagwa's camp in control of the province.
