Air Zimbabwe's inefficiency affects Zim tourism

Tourism players say the ongoing problems at the national airline Air Zimbabwe are bleeding the local tourism industry to death as access to tourism destinations have been affected with some hotels recording cancellations.

Problems at Air Zimbabwe are now destroying the gains that have been made in the local tourism industry with some local tourism destinations no longer accessible.

In an interview, Zimbabwe Council of Tourism President, Mr. Tendai Madzivanyika called for an urgent solution to the problems at the national airline.

Safari Operators Association President, Mr. Emmanuel Fundira said there is need share holders to recapitalise while a strategic partner needs to be found as a matter of urgency.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Acting Chief Executive, Mr. Givemore Chidzidzi confirmed that some hotels have already recorded booking cancellations.

Air Zimbabwe airplanes have been grounded for over a month after pilots downed tools demanding to be paid their outstanding salaries and allowances.
