Human Rights activist and political commentator Dewa Mavhinga has alleged that poverty in Zimbabwe is fueling rampant corruption.
"Poverty is a great evil; it fuels corruption - especially in Zimbabwe where many survive on handouts and rely on the benevolence and patronage of political or civil society god fathers," said Mavhinga.
"Some (pun intended) have sold their souls for a measly economy class return ticket to Europe - it comes with a 3 or 4 days per diem that eclipses their monthly earnings."
He said broad on one such patronage trip, one civil society activist spent a year thereafter signing off all his emails and letters to the editor as, "Yours truly, recently in Europe."
Zimbabwe is rat6e as one of the most corruption affected nations in Africa and most of the corruption is committed by people in highest offices but there has been scarce activities in which such officials have been arrested and dragged to the courts.
