Government said it would ensure that police officers had adequate equipment at road blocks, said a deputy minister.
The ZRP racks in millions every month in terms of fines from traffic offenders and was in the past few months said to be pocketing nearly the bulk of the cash for its own operations.
Answering a question on roadblocks, Home Affairs Deputy Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said they would ensure that police officers had adequate equipment at road blocks.
This was after Buhera West legislator Oliver Mandipaka (Zanu-PF) had asked what Government policy was on replenishing roadblock equipment, particularly at night, as police risked being run over by vehicles.
Deputy Minister Ziyambi said his ministry was aware that police officers did not have adequate equipment and was looking into the issue.
Recently Ziyambi said government has no time worrying about where traffic police details relieve themselves as long as they are performing their duties as directed.
MPs recently expressed concern over the lack of mobile ablution facilities for the cops who resort to the bush, exposing themselves to potentially deadly roaming snakes, for instance.
Police officers dressed in their conspicuous light green visibility vests are a common site along the country's highways as they man roadblocks for hours on end.
But while their employer has ensured they consistently answer to the call of duty every time, it has strangely escaped the same employer that they also need to periodically answer to the call of nature.
