The recent cabinet reshuffle by President Mugabe is a positive move which should be welcomed and commended. The truth be told, cabinet reshuffle is imperative as it helps Government in developing important areas through fresh ideas and policies.

A cabinet reshuffle can be described as an event that occurs when a Head of state or President of a government rotates or changes the composition of Ministers in the cabinet.

Reports have it that cabinet reshuffles happen for a variety of reasons, hence, President Mugabe's recent cabinet reshuffle was done in a way of refreshing the government as this reflects a change in policies and priorities.

However, it is pathetic that most opposition parties and political analysts fail to appreciate President Mugabe's effort of rotating ministers to different ministries.

It should be understood that the change of Ministers in the cabinet is the prerogative of the President; hence people like former Presidential Affairs minister Didymus Mutasa should stop waffling about President Mugabe's cabinet reshuffle.

Mutasa nonsensically criticized President Mugabe saying that he is reshuffling sick and crazy people to those influential positions. It is incorrect for Mutasa to say that those Ministers appointed by the President were abusing their positions. What surprises me is that Mutasa starts to realize all this only now because he is out of Government.

Perhaps Didymus only sees how good the Government is when he was part and parcel of it.

Nonetheless, the move to reshuffle the cabinet is a positive move not meant to benefit government ministers or government officials, but it is done to enhance the interest of the general public.

The prophets of doom should be ashamed of their prophecies. Recently, the MDC led by Welshman Ncube released a statement criticizing the stance of the President on cabinet reshuffle.  The decision of rotating the cabinet is done by the President because President is responsible to the people.

It is also important to note that President Mugabe does not just select and transfer a Minister from one Ministry to the other, but what he does is that he spots the talent in each and every individual then appoints him/her to that Ministry.

It is pleasing that President Mugabe appoints a Minister to a certain Ministry basing on his/her performance despite allegations from the opposition political outfits that Ministers are not working.

One of the Government's vibrant policies is women empowerment. President Mugabe has always wanted to see women being treated at par with their male counterparts. It is therefore heartening that President Mugabe is trying to balance by the number of females and males in cabinet. In the recent cabinet reshuffle, Comrade Nyasha Chikwinya was appointed as the new Minister of Women, Gender and Community Development.

Reshuffling assists in upgrading of ideas that already existed. There should always be a good reason for a reshuffle. No reshuffle should ever take place simply because it is assumed that there should be one.

The main reason for reshuffles is to allow President to try and ensure the best possible team of Ministers that can work towards achieving the Zim-Asset objectives. One cannot deny that cabinet reshuffling is an important opportunity to reset and refocus the government.

As it stands, the Ministers who were appointed to new Ministries will add value to their predecessor's considerable innovations that they contributed on matters of economic building. President's idea of recycling the Cabinet is also a positive idea in the sense that it's an opportunity to strengthen all the Ministries, which will constructively benefit the public.
