Zimbabwean woman jailed 25 years in Hong Kong for drug trafficking

A 22-year-old Zimbabwean woman has been imprisoned for 25 years in Hong Kong after being convicted of drug trafficking.

Spelogia Chimwemwe Bhasikoro was convicted by the Hong Hong High Court after being found in possession of 2kgs of heroine.

Bhasikoro initially professed ignorance over her luggage contents, alleging that she was sent by a Nigerian in South Africa to deliver the parcel in Hong Kong for a reward of $12 000.

The woman later pleaded guilty to the charges of drug trafficking.

In sentencing, the Hong Kong judge considered h age and slapped her with 25 years in prison before suspending a third of her prison term.

Bhasikoro will serve an effective 16 years and 8 months in prison.

Another 43-year-old Zimbabwean, Regina Makwembere is currently serving a 7-year prison term after being convicted of similar charges.
