Harare City council rapped over dysfunction sewer system

Harare Residents Trust has attacked the Harare City Council for failing to alleviate the problem of sewer systems a development which is feared that it will lead to a break out of diseases.
"During the tour of the Firle Sewerage Treatment Works and the Morfton Jaffray Water Works last Friday, it was evident that the City of Harare was stage-managing the whole exercise to gain public sympathy on their prepaid water project initiative," said the Trust.
"City officials revealed that the authorities ordered the opening of seven certain pipes that are dysfunctional, during the tour, while three are actually functional."
The Trust said the council created the impression that they have effectively used funds made available through the Chinese loan.
"But when confronted on this during the tour they failed to give figures of expenditures and disbursements on the project," said the Trust.
"Their lies will be exposed in a report we are preparing for the funders of the project, the Multi-Donor Trust Fund. They invited carefully selected stakeholders to pamper them with praises while manipulating the whole process all the time."
