In a move to meant to stop VP Emmerson Mnangagwa's chances of ever becoming president, the G40 group are now said to be lobbying First Lady Grace Mugabe to succeed her husband, President Robert Mugabe.

The G40 group is allegedly furiously pushing for Grace to become the next Zanu-PF leader as they feel that Mnangagwa is a hard sell to the electorate in 2018.

Zanu-PF insiders said the pact between VP Emmerson Mnangagwa and First Lady Grace Mugabe seems to be shaky as it now looks like Grace could be setting herself for the post, rather than assist Mnangagwa.

Grace is now said to be working with the Generation 40 camp. This comes after a number of key Mnangagwa allies have either been suspended from Zanu-PF or have been publicly humiliated.

One of the well-placed sources said it was clear that all was not well between the two, particularly as it became more evident that "Dr Amai (Grace) could be priming herself for the ultimate post, rather than assist Ngwena (Mnangagwa) to get there".

"I think you guys in the media are missing a trick here. It's not the G40 that is reeling under pressure, no. It is the Mnangagwa camp that is taking a massive beating at the hands of people who are hobnobbing with Dr Amai as comrades and their factions fight to the bitter end to succeed President Mugabe," he said.
