'Jabulani Sibanda carrying out Mujuru cabal agenda'

FIRED war veterans leader Jabulani Sibanda has aligned himself with the opposition MDC-T in a campaign which is using the name of missing activist Itai Dzamara to score cheap political points against the ruling Zanu-PF party.
Sibanda, who has of late become a darling of the private media particularly the Daily News, was at the weekend part of members of opposition who held prayers in Harare for Dzamara who disappeared early this year.
The axed war veterans' leader was even given a platform to address the crowd denigrating the ruling party and its leadership and in the process winning praise from MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai.
He got applause from MDC-T supporters when he encouraged Zimbabweans to rise against the government in an operation he termed "Kubvisa Zvisina Basa."
Sibanda, who is part of a cabal led by fired Vice President Joice Mujuru and other senior party members that include former secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa and secretary for information and publicity Rugare Gumbo, made headlines again on Monday when he was quoted in the Daily News, which described him as fearless, saying he was not afraid to go to prison in defence of his "beliefs."
Mujuru and her cabal were expelled from the ruling Zanu-PF over allegations of plotting to topple President Robert Mugabe in the run up to the 6th Zanu-PF National People's Congress last year.
The former war veterans' leader is today billed to be part of a discussion panel organised by non-governmental organisation Bulawayo Agenda discussing the country's economy.
Ironically, Sibanda during his tenure as war veterans chairperson before his expulsion from the organisation and party last December, was one of the most vocal critics of MDC aligned civil society organisations which he accused of having a regime change agenda.
Sibanda's liaisons come at a time when there have been revelations that the West was using the disappearance of Dzamara to prop up the fortunes of opposition parties ahead of the 2018 harmonised elections.
Britain, according to The Herald, is leading a clique of European Union countries to maintain a hostile stance against Zimbabwe despite the lapsing of illegal sanctions against the country as provided for in Article 96 of the Cotonou Agreement governing relations between Western and African, Caribbean and Pacific nations.
The paper also reported that the West has planned to pour resources into the civil society sector and arms of the government such as the judiciary in a bid to weaken the control of the ruling Zanu-PF which won an overwhelming majority in the 2013 harmonised elections.
The party has strengthened its position by winning more seats during parliamentary by-elections.
A member of the war veterans' council of elders, George Mlala, yesterday said Sibanda was carrying out an agenda on behalf of his leader Mujuru and their cabal whose broader vision is to join with the MDCs against Zanu-PF.
"What he's doing is what made us remove him in the first place because we had realised that he's no longer towing the same line as us. Jabulani is revealing himself for what he really is. You have to remember that he's not doing this as himself but is representing the broader interests of the Mujuru faction and their People First project," said Mlala.
"This is why you find that there are still problems in the war veterans' structures in Bulawayo because there are some elements still loyal to Jabulani who still don't want to accept the resolutions adopted in Masvingo."
Mlala said Sibanda, fired secretary for administration, Mutasa and axed secretary for information and publicity, Gumbo were appearing in all sorts of platforms to advertise their project.
He said the party should think hard about some of Sibanda's loyalists in Bulawayo and take decisive action ahead of the 2018 harmonised elections.
"These are not his actions alone, Jabulani is fulfilling an agenda of Mujuru's group. Their long term goal is to unite with the MDCs and fight Zanu-PF. Jabulani, Mutasa and Gumbo are considered energetic and vocal in their faction that's why you have seen them talking a lot in various platforms," said Mlala.
"It's not anything new. Jabulani showed his true colours and the intentions of his grouping when he started talking about the so called bedroom coup."
