'They want me dead,' says Minister

After receiving bullets and threatening message, minister of State for Mashonaland Central, Martin Dinha has confirmed that his political enemies want him dead.

He said he was not going to step down nor was he going to stop supporting President Robert Mugabe.

The minister has since beefed up his security and is confident that it will deter any intended harm. The matter has since been reported at Bindura Police Station under RRB 2355962 and CR 121/07/15.

The deadly fights within President Robert Mugabe's warring Zanu-PF took an ominous turn yesterday after Dinha, received an AK47 bullet and a threatening message telling him to step down or risk suffering the same fatal fate that befell the late Zanu-PF political commissar, Elliot Manyika, who died in a suspicious car accident in 2008.

The accompanying message read: "Resign now or you die. You messed up with the wrong guys. Manyika, Gezi and Masawi waiting for you".

Although once linked to ousted former Vice President Joice Mujuru, Dinha is now said to be very close to the First Family - which has apparently displeased some hawks among Zanu-PF's ambitious young Turks, who are known as the Generation 40 (G40) camp.

It is claimed that the G40 is not only impatient to take over from Mugabe and other ageing party bigwigs such as Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, but also that they "desire sole and unfettered influence" over the nonagenarian's influential wife, Grace - who insiders say will have a major say over who succeeds her husband.

Dinha said he was shaken by the incident. "I am taking the threat seriously given that there was an attempt on my life during the election period in 2013," said Minister Dinha.

"As a human being, I am obviously shocked by this incident but I believe it's cowardly and while I'm shaken, I'm not intimidated. I will continue discharging my duties and will not resign. If God believes I must die of a man's bullet, so be it."

Minister Dinha said he had on countless times reiterated that he did not belong to any faction.

"I pray to one God and serve one master President Mugabe who is my hero and mentor," he said. "I am his disciple. To me factionalism of any form is counter-revolutionary."

He said there should be one party and one leader. Minister Dinha said he viewed the First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe as a mother figure to him and his family.

"She is kind, honest and principled. I love her and follow her exemplary life," he said.

Minister Dinha said he was prepared to defend President Mugabe and the First family.
