MDC-T councillor Lancelot Sunshine Munorwei has passed on.
This was announced by Harare West MP Jessie Majome through her facebook page.
"My heart is heavy with sorrow and grief with the passing away this morning, of one of our 2 councillors- Ward 16 Councillor Lancelot Sunshine Munorwei Mudavanhu," said Majome.
"He was a loving husband to Chipo Mudavanhu who was my chief election agent, a devoted father to Chiwoneso Mudavanhu Mudavanhu, Tafadzwa and Chido, and a doting grandfather. For us in the MDC T family we have lost a strong cadre and pillar who was our Harare West District organising secretary."
She said Cllr. Mudavanhu had been unwell for some time and we prayed and hoped that he would get better but the will of God has prevailed. I last saw him in the hospital on Sunday evening and was hoping to see him today, but it was not to be.
"Councillor Mudavanhu (who was culturally my son) was an amazing man of action and results," she said. "As far as I know he was the only person with disability to be directly elected to any office whether council or Parliament when he was elected councillor of Ward 16 (Mabelreign etc) in 2008 and re-elected in 2013."
"I enjoyed working with him and often relued on him to move mountains. Among the many achievements our tag team which included Cllr Charity Bango of Ward 41 achieved together was the exemplary distribution of the once off Harare West Constituency Development Fund of 2011. During that time we electrified Westlea Primary School, sank a borehole each in Sherwood, Ashdown Park, Marborough Civic Centre and Good Hope suburbs, repaired the Haig Park one, refurbished the Marlborough Civic Centre and Mabelreign Shops council clinics and public toilets, as well as the Greencroft public toilets."
Majome said he assisted me in getting council's buy-in to my community hall project which she plan to build behind Mabelreign Swimming Pool.
"It's he has died before seeing our dream achieved. He was now working on among other things, community development projects which are to be funded by the 10% revenue collected from council," she said.
"Against great odds he continued to serve the residents. His door was always open and many will agree that he was one of the most accessible councillors. He was always there to assist if there was a water crisis, blocked sewers, dumpsites needing clearing and other local government issues."
