The Harare City Council's blitz on illegal structures continues as 25 houses constructed on undesignated land in Warren Park and Westlea were demolished today.

Of the demolished houses, 20 were in Warren Park, and council argues that the land on which the houses were constructed on was acquired illegally.

Residents of the two suburbs affected by the demolitions said they followed due processes to acquire the land, and have lost money they invested in constructing the homes.

City of Harare's Principal Communications Officer Michael Chideme said the demolitions will continue to ensure all residential properties conform to prescribed land use policies, and that urban land is acquired legally.

"This is an ongoing excercise to ensure there is sanity in the capital according to global town planning best practices," he said.

The latest demolitions follow the recent razing down of illegal houses in Glen Norah, Epworth and Chitungwiza.
