Harare Residents Trust has warned residents from entering into payment plans with the council.

"The HRT urges residents to avoid entering into payment plans with the Harare City Council after being slapped with summons," the Trust said.

"When you have received summons, it is critical to answer this important question before taking any other step: Do you accept the figure you allegedly owe the council? Yes or No? If Yes, it means you agree with the interest charges and everything that constitute the amount owed. If not, know your reasons clearly, and then respond appropriately to the summons, without being coerced into agreeing to a money making venture called payment plans by the City Treasury."

The HRT urged residents to pay a minimum of ten dollars every month to the council, covering property tax and fixed water charges, and admin charges, and any other charges for services rendered.

"But residents should not pay for services not rendered," said the Trust.

The council is reportedly engaging the residents for payment plans in connection with those who are in arrears with the local authority.
