Government still intends to dualise all major highways countrywide and now awaits funds to kick-start the programme.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Obert Mpofu said the dualisation of the Harare-Nyamapanda Highway would be incorporated in the first phase of the programme.

Minister Mpofu was responding to Uzumba legislator, Simbaneuta Mudarikwa (Zanu-PF), on the progress made to dualise the Harare- Nyamapanda Road during question time in the National Assembly on Wednesday.

"Our intention is to get an investor followed by a tendering process for the dualisation programme, which would be done in the near future," he said.

Minister Mpofu said the unavailability of funds was hampering the construction of the country's roads.

Responding to a different question from Bulilima East legislator, Mathias Ndlovu (Zanu-PF), Minister Mpofu said it required a substantial amount of money to construct the Plumtree-Tsholotsho, Masendu-Khami and Matjinge-Ndolwane roads and funds were not yet available.
