Zanu PF Shurugwi Member of Parliament, Anastancia Ndhlovu has made bizarre claims that animals are feeling the pinch of sanctions imposed by the West at the instigation of former premier Morgan Tsvangirai.
Ndhlovu on Thursday told the National Assembly the ballooning elephant head in Hwange National Park was due to lack of resources.
"Not only have people been affected by these illegal sanctions, even animals, the wildlife sector," she said.
"It is so sad. You know the issue of the ballooning elephant head in Hwange National Park, the challenges with regards conservation efforts owing to the fact that the (Zimbabwe) Parks and Wildlife Management Authority and Ministry of Environment do not have adequate resources.
"Animals do not vote, they do not know anything about politics but they are suffering from the effects of these illegal sanctions.
"Morgan Tsvangirai says he wants to lead this country – over our dead bodies Madam Speaker."
According to Southern Eye, Ndhlovu was debating a motion by Hatfield MP Tapiwa Mashakada on the poor state of the economy.
She said she agreed with Mashakada that the economy was faltering, but blamed it on Tsvangirai who called for sanctions.
"I do agree with him that our economy is not doing as well as it should, but I differ with him very strongly on the reasons why our economy has suffered," she said.
"It is very sad that when His Excellency (Robert Mugabe) decided to fulfil the reason why Zimbabweans had gone to war with the British, that of giving the land back to its rightful owners, it did not go down well with our former colonisers and they found, among ourselves, some puppets and sell outs that they could use, in the name and person of Morgan Tsvangirai who then was a leader of workers in the country through the ZCTU as its secretary-general".
Ndhlovu said after the formation of MDC-T, the whites saw it fit to impose illegal sanctions on Zimbabweans.
"Sanctions are a form of war," she said. "They are a form of terrorism and anyone who invites sanctions upon the people of this country is indeed an enemy of the people."
