There was drama in Harare Friday afternoon when a City of Harare employee lost a finger while trying to put a spike under a fleeing commuter omnibus.

The sad incident followed a high speed chase between municipal police and two commuter omnibuses.

When reporters arrived at the intersection of Sam Nujoma and Robert Mugabe, a group of people were busy taking photographs of the finger and asking vendors near the scene what transpired.

Eyewitnesses say the City of Harare employee lost his finger while laying down a spike to stop one of the fleeing commuter omnibuses.

In another incident, the Harare City Council was also under the spotlight as a section of the road along Jason Moyo near the intersection with Sam Nujoma gave way resulting in a delivery truck getting trapped.

Eyewitnesses say the incident is evidence of shoddy workmanship on the roads, adding that exposing motorists to such danger is unacceptable.

The truck was later moved off the section of the road by a crane.

Meanwhile, the injured employee has been identified as a member of the city's traffic enforcement unit but his name is being with held.
