Over $3 million in cash and kind was raised at the charity dinner held in honour of the First Lady, Dr Grace Mugabe 50th birthday.

The corporate world, government ministers and foreign guests converged at the first family's residence in Borrowdale, Harare for the dinner held in support of Dr Mugabe's charity work.

The First Lady is patron of several organisations and founder of the Grace Mugabe Foundation.

Besides giving a helping hand to the organisations under her foundation, she shares with other charities that are in need in view of the dwindling support from traditional overseas donors that sustained them in the past.

In the same spirit, proceeds from her 50th birthday dinner will also be extended to other local charities.

In her speech during her Golden Jubilee celebrations, Dr Mugabe said the idea of combining her life celebration with charity has been manifest since the beginning of her Mazowe project.

On her 43rd birthday, Dr Mugabe in support of her husband braved a chilly July morning and held the ground breaking ceremony for the home which now houses 90 children.
