Two Harare housing cooperatives Rakadeuka Housing Cooperative and Landmark Housing Delivery Trust are allegedly illegally allocating land to unsuspected residents in open spaces in Harare.
The open space is along Seke Road opposite Sunningdale II and situated between St Martins and the Catholic University.
The local authority has since warned residents not to enter into any deals with the cooperatives.
Council said it will not be held responsible for any loss of investment by the people who were cheated.
"It has come to the attention of Harare City Council that there are two organisations Rakadeuka Housing Cooperative and Landmark Housing Delivery Trust that are illegally selling council land on the open space along Seke Road opposite Sunningdale II and situated between St Martins and the Catholic University,' said council in a notice.
"The two organisations have not been allocated the piece of land for housing development. They are not even in our records as housing cooperatives or Trusts. The land they are selling has already been procedurally allocated to other beneficiaries on the city's housing waiting list.
"Rakadeuka Housing Cooperative claims to have made an application to council for the same piece of land.
"However the application on its own cannot be used as justification to illegally parcel out land.
"Residents who have brought land at the site are urged to report the matter to the police for them to recover their money. Harare City Council will not be held responsible for any loss of investment by the people who were cheated".
