The Zimbabwe government has spent $50million on 633 vehicles which include all-terrain troop carrying trucks, water cannons, buses, and equipment, mostly used by military and police.

Senior government officials said this week in order to cover up the purchase, the consignment which is coming from Ashok Leyland Ltd of India has been has been described as cars for the "Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality" in the bill of lading.

The purchase was financed by the Export-Import Bank of India under the buyer's credit national export insurance account to the tune of $49.92million extended to Zimbabwe's Ministry of Finance.

The vehicles are meant to bolster  the security services to combat any possible uprising due to the deteriorating socio-economic situation in the country.
