Two kombi drivers in Mutare recently abducted a vicious police dog. The incident happened after the two were arrested following an accident that had happened at Dangamvura Rank.
Laston Nyamusendedza (25) and Christopher Nyadzayo (41) were involved in a accident at Dangamvura Rank and a Zimbabwe Republic Police officer, Constable Beston Mutariri who was on patrol in the Central Business District attended the scene.
He ordered the two to accompany him to Mutare Central Police Station. Cst Mutariri whose rank could not be established was accompanied by the fiery looking and vicious police dog named Master No. 1156 which was, as usual, in an uncompromising mood.
In the process, the dog allegedly jumped into the kombi and before Cst Mutariri knew it, the drivers sped off.
However, the kombi drivers' actions backfired after they were arrested for driving away with a police dog as well as defying police orders. Nyamusendedza and Nyadzayo were arraigned before Mutare magistrate, Mr Langton Mukwengi who convicted them.
They were ordered to pay $100 fine each or alternatively serve 60 days as Zimbabwe Prison Correctional Services guests upon failing to pay the fine. Mr Mathew Chimutungo prosecuted.
