FAILURE to fathom the thought of his wife being in another man's arms led a Chimanimani man to team up with his friend and assault his rival using a burning log.
Tonderai Chigaka (25) and Tongai Maradzika (34) from Bumba Village appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura and pleaded guilty to assaulting Francis Chitate whom they believed was having an affair with Chigaka's wife.
Prosecuting, Mr Donald Mudadirwa told the court that Chitate had gone to his girlfriend's homestead when he was ambushed by Chigaka and Maradzika who confronted him.
Chitate did not take this accusation kindly and a misunderstanding ensued. The duo started assaulting Chitate, before Chigaka grabbed a burning log with which he thrashed the complainant once on the head. Chitate sustained a deep cut on his head as well as a swollen right arm.
Maradzika and Chigaka were remanded in custody to August 12.
In unrelated incident, a Zimunya man assaulted his friend with a log who had insulted him after he had had one too many beers.
Tsanzirai Sanyatwe (38) severely assaulted Kuziva Chikukwa (34) who sustained injuries all over the body.
Asked why he had committed the offence, Sanyatwe told the court that anger got the better of him following the string of insults that had came from his friend.
"When he gets drunk, Kuziva can be uncontrollable and that is what he did on the day in question. I just want this court to forgive me because I was overwhelmed with emotions and would like to apologise," he said.
Sanyatwe was ordered to pay $150 fine or serve an alternative three months in jail.
