NEWLY appointed Sunday Mail editor Mabasa Sasa has come under attack from David Coltart over a headline tilted "we killed whites like flies".
The story was run this past Sunday.
Coltart said the headline borders on hate speech but Sasa attempted to deflate attention.
Wrote Coltart on his official twitter handler: "Editor are you going to apologise for the appalling, inflammatory, hate speech contained in your headline?
Masasa responded "I'm sorry you don't like it"
Coltart hit back "It's not a matter of me not liking it but what is objectively good - or bad – journalism
Sasa said "And objective as defined by..."
Coltart then quoted the constitution "As defined by section 61(5)(b) of the Zimbabwe Constitution - "freedom of expression doesn't include hate speech"
Sasa "That headline is in inverted commas for a reason - it is reported speech. It is not a declaration by publisher".
Sasa had been acting editor of The Sunday Mail since June 2014.
