The United States government yesterday said it remained committed to normalizing relations with Zimbabwe, hence the construction of a new multi-million dollar embassy compound in Harare.

Situated in the Bluffhill area, the project worth over $199 million, according to outgoing US Ambassador to Zimbabwe Bruce Wharton, would create employment and provide a platform to shape bilateral relations between the two countries.

The NEC (New United States Embassy Compound) will be the place from which generations of American diplomats and their Zimbabwean colleagues will shape our bilateral relationship, increase the flow of business and investment between our countries, and open our pathways of mutual respect and understanding between the United States and Zimbabwe, Wharton said.
