Man found in possession of pangolin

A man from Chisumbanje is in trouble after he was found trying to sell a pangolin to undercover police officers.
The man was was arrested in connection with the offence. Night Lovemore Makanyi (43) denied the charges of contravening Section 45(1) (b) of The Parks and Wildlife Act, Chapter 20:14, which makes it illegal for a person to be found in possession, sell or dispose of any live specially protected animal or the meat of any such animal. He was remanded in custody to August 12.
Manica Post Reported that Mutare senior magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiundura presided over the matter. Representing the State was Mr Donald Mudadirwa.Allegations were that on July 26 near Checheche Business Centre in Chisumbanje, Makanyi and his accomplice, Tinashe Mtetwa, who is still at large tried to sell a pangolin to undercover detectives and later tried to rob them of their cash.
"Detectives from the Minerals and Border Control Unit proceeded to Chisumbanje after they received a tip-off that the duo was selling a pangolin.
"The detectives posed as buyers and Makanyi is alleged to have instructed Mtetwa to sell the pangolin to the detectives provided they had cash," said Mr Mudadirwa.
However, on their way to get the pangolin, the two suspects tried to rob the detectives of the money which they intended to use to buy the pangolin, but failed.
