A MUTARE Municipal Police allegedly battered a kombi driver, damaging his ear drum in the process.

William Chifamba (39) denied the assault charges and was remanded out of custody to August 13 by Mutare senior magistrate Sekai Chiundura.
He was given $40 bail. Donald Mudadirwa prosecuted.

Manica Post reported that Chifamba allegedly assaulted Munyaradzi Mushonga on July 16 following a misunderstanding between municipal police and the kombi crew.

Chifamba used his open palms to assault Mushonga several times just behind his left ear and on both eyes leading to the damage of Mushonga's left eardrums.

MUshonga said he was assaulted when he tried to rescue his conductor.
Mushonga claimed that Chifamba continued assaulting him despite pleas from his colleagues to stop.
"When they saw that they had injured me, they made me to pay a $10 fine and left me to go, but I had sustained injuries.

"I had to be referred to a ear specialist in Harare who confirmed that my eardrums had been damaged and as I speak I am in pain," narrated Mushonga whose left cheek was swollen.
