Social and political commentators have said leadership committed to socialist struggle is needed to pull Zimbabwe out of the political and economic quagmire caused by the ruling Zanu PF for the past many years.
Ngqabutho Nicholas Mabhena said the left is re-grouping in Zimbabwe.
"We should be careful though not to make the same mistakes which were made in 1999, when the people's movement got hijacked by imperialist forces," he said.
"We want a leadership committed to a socialist struggle. In the last two weeks, 18 000 workers have lost their jobs, millions are living in poverty. The revolutionary seed has been planted. We say no to reformist, Zimbabwe needs a revolution. We shall overcome!"
Mandlenkosi Dube said unless Zimbabweans move away from tribal mentality and allow a person from Zimbabwe with the mandates from a constitution done by Zimbabweans forget liberation.
"If you were once a headboy and beaten by a coward you know you won't get a chance for plain level Re-match," he said.
Mazisi Zikode said the Zimbabweans should clearly articulate their vision and how they propose to rescue the country from its quagmire.
"The leadership should be genuine aspirants to something not only better but also different from the existing chaos and theft," he said.
"The 1999 popular movement was hijacked by the leadership who were not motivated by class consciousness. These people emerged from protest politics."
He said history shows us that capitalism's laws of chaotic competition often forces certain layers of its agents out of the system; these angry people throw bricks back at it while shouting progressive slogans to recruit sympathy from a leaderless working class.
"The Zimbabwean left should therefore, be honest and support leaders who understand their historic duty - to rescue the country from the mess it is in," he said.
