President and Founder Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers, Denford Mutashu has said his organisation successfully lobbied for the relocation of vendors from the undesignated selling areas in and around towns and cities.

"It was a truly engaging and yet critical step towards restoring the city to its Sunshine City status while empowering the vendors as well," said Mutashu. "The retail sector and industry stands to benefit from this important milestone through an improved business environment."

He said the vendors provided unfair competition by selling from the front of the shops and pavements.

"The vendors did not also face any costs like wages and salaries, commercial rentals, Value added tax that the retailer grappled with," he said. "The next lobby areas include, but not limited to, Value added tax reduction, cost of doing business review, industry capacity utilisation and competitiveness, rising import bill against declining exports. Thank you all for the support you have provided. Thank you His Excellency The President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe and Amai Dr Grace Mugabe."

He said special mention goes to the media and most especially those that attended our First open Retailers/Vendors engagement at the Crown Plaza Monomotapa Hotel on the 4th of April 2015 at 10 30am.

"This set out the beginning of a successful lobbying journey," he said.

"The Hon Minister of Smal to Medium Enterprises (SME)s Sithembiso Nyoni and your entire Ministry Staff including the Deputy Minister Hon Muponori. All towns and cities representatives that made this possible deserve a pum pum. Michael Chideme , thank you so much."
