MDC-T BULAWAYO deputy spokesperson Felix Mafa Sibanda has challenged the Supreme Court Judges to resign following their ruling which has resulted to over 20 000 workers losing jobs in a space of one month.
The Supreme Court judges led by Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku ruled in a case of Zuva Petroleum against two employees that the employers have a right to fire workers after giving them three months notice.
Sibanda said the judiciary must resign as there is no doubt that a serious constitutional crisis between the executive and the judiciary has risen due to President Robert Mugabe dismissing the judgments by the Supreme Court which was made in favour of the capitalists employers to terminate workers contracts willy nilly.
He said this sounds most welcome from the layman point of view as the most pragmatic act by national president but legally and otherwise this gas caused clash between the executive and the judiciary since 1980.
"In such grave situation the judiciary must just do an honorable thing which is throwing the towel or resign simply put," he said.
"In conclusion, the Bulawayo province leadership is not amused by Mugabe's politics machinations of trying to shed crocodile tears in order to hoodwink workers as if Zanu-PF administration is in the side of workers. No! the cabinet approved the handling of vendors and this time is violating Zimbabwe's constitution whereby workers and labour rights are fully protected. We do not accept Mugabe's latest machinations and hope every worker and every Zimbabwean shall not be blinded by this Zanu PF grandstanding."
