MDC-T senior member Job Sikhala has questioned the transperancy of burials conducted at the National Heroes acre in Harare as to whether those buried there are true heroes or are just friends of President Robert Mugabe

"Who are your true modern and past heroes?" he asked. "If the Heroes Acre a sacred place for Zimbabwe's true heroes or it has been turned into a Zanu PF shrine or the burial site of Mugabe's friends? Is there anything to celebrate this date?"

Batsi Shambambeva said the initial idea to honour struggle heroes was noble before it was personalised, in its true essence

"Today you find yourself  asking what makes a hero, when the idea has been side stepped by greedy , power hungry, tribalists, boot lickers, murderous in individuals," he said.

"The ideals have been lost totally because if you don't support Zanu PF and Mugabe you are enemy of the state and must be dealt with accordingly, but you can never lose respect for those who truly sacrificed their lives, living and non living , those who still fearlessly speak against totalitarian rule, those to me are real Heroes."
