Harare council launches crackdown on churches

Harare City Council has cancelled all lease that were entered during the Zimbabwe dollar era and as a result the city will only issue new leases to churches that are not in default.

City spokesperson Michael Chideme said churches were constantly applying for more land to construct new church buildings while they were failing to settle their debts.

He added that the city had realised that churches had the money as they were able to construct churches and therefore they should settle their debts first.
