Man jailed 8 months for assaulting mother over goat slaughter

A man in Chiredzi who assaulted his mother for slaughtering his goat for a family ritual was last week jailed 12 months by a Chiredzi Magistrate.
Joseph Lisenga Makawele of Haisa Village, Chief Sengwe, Chikombedzi assaulted his mother for using his goat to conduct family rituals while he was in South Africa in 2008.
Makawele appeared before Chiredzi Resident Magistrate Constance Mutandwa facing a charge of assault.
The court heard that on July 14, 2015, Makawele together with his wife went to Njakeni Makawele`s homestead to inquire about his goat from his mother.
A misunderstanding arose between Makawele and his mother and Makawele left and returned after a few minutes holding a mopane tree log and assaulted his mother twice on her left arm and once on her right wrist inflicting some injuries on her.
Magistrate Mutandwa convicted Makawele and slapped him with 12 months imprisonment of which four months were suspended on condition of good behavior leaving him to serve eight months.
Kudzai Magavade prosecuted.
