The Agro-dealers Association of Zimbabwe Trust Group (ADAZTG) has launched an agriculture inputs and distribution centre at Chikuku Business Centre in Bikita District.
Masvingo Mirror reported that the Centre was established through an SNV capacity building initiative under the Rural Agriculture Revitalization Project which is funded by DANIDA.
In a statement on the occasion of the launch, the SNV Food Security local representative, JayKay Musasa said Denmark's development cooperation (SNV) in Zimbabwe is aimed at supporting inclusive economic growth through the private sector development in agriculture.
Musasa said the agro-dealer distribution centre will revitalise rural agriculture through providing smallholder farmers, especially those in the most remote areas with easy access to inputs at affordable prices.
The Centre was launched after the ADAZTG and the SNV saw the success of the farmers' club which is known as Chamas.
The Chamas is probably the most successful farmers' club in the country and has over $58 000 in its account so far. Chamas is the name of the agrodealers club.
Chamas also runs a poultry project, a cattle fattening project, garden project and a tuck-shop.
The existance of the Chams club was in September 2013 and began with a family of four, thus Ladislaus Makazinge, his two wives and their child with the aim of saving money for their development as a family.
in January 2014, other villagers admired the idea and with the idea of SNV and Care International, they joined Makazinge and his family and the club now has 213 members.
The money they save is used to buy farming equipment and inputs suchs as wheelbarrows, fertilizers and seeds.
ADAZTG chairperson for Masvingo, Edward Madzivadondo complimented the club for their hard work and urged Chivi farmers and agro-dealers who graced the function to imitate the good work being done by the Chamas farmers.
The club is managing to pay schools fees for over six orphaned students and take care of the less privileged old people in their village.
The Chamas club founder and chairperson, Ladislaus Makazinge thanked SNV for its help.
